1. Prior to traveling to Japan, study Japanese and familiarize yourself with Japan's climate, culture, customs, differences between Japanese and your home country's legal systems, and university conditions. (Reference: JASSO STUDY in JAPAN “Life in Japan”)
2. After arriving in Japan, it takes approximately one to one and a half months to receive the scholarship. Therefore, it is advisable to prepare at least approximately 2,000 USD as temporary living expenses for the initial period.
3. The scholarship will be deposited into the Japan Post Bank account that each recipient opens after arriving in Japan. The scholarship will not be deposited into any account other than this designated account.
4. If a medical examination reveals an infectious disease such as tuberculosis, treatment must be completed before departure. If not fully cured by the departure date, entry into Japan will not be permitted. (Reference: Pre-entry Tuberculosis Screening (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare))
5. Regarding housing, applicants may reside in the “International House” for international students and researchers under specified conditions if desired. However, the number of rooms is limited, and not all applicants can be accommodated. All housing-related expenses are the responsibility of the individual. If not residing in the International House, applicants must arrange and pay for private housing themselves. Furthermore, if bringing dependent family members (spouse/children), securing family housing is extremely difficult. Therefore, successful applicants must secure housing in Japan before bringing their dependents.
6. Regarding concurrent receipt of scholarships from organizations other than the Japanese government (MEXT) and other Japanese government agencies, including your home country's government agencies, some scholarships (such as those funded by Japanese government-related organizations) are incompatible with concurrent receipt. Therefore, you must confirm this in advance with the Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country. (Reference: Regarding Concurrent Receipt of Other Scholarships under the Government-Sponsored Foreign Student Program (MEXT, July 2024)
Come to the IAD counter every month to sign the confirmation of enrollment (Yonago Campus: Student Affairs Section, Student Affairs Office; Hamasaka Campus: Administrative Office, IPDRE). Scholarship payments will not be made for any month in which you fail to sign.
If you will be absent for an extended period (e.g., field research or temporary return to your home country) and cannot sign within the designated period, please plan to sign within that same month.
Signing in the previous or following month is not permitted.

The MEXT will provide an airline ticket to MEXT students who have graduated or completed their studies at Tottori University and who return to their home country within the month following the end of their scholarship period, based on their application.
The ticket is an economy-class ticket from the international airport normally used by Tottori University to the nearest international airport to the student's destination (in principle, within their home country). Domestic travel expenses within Japan, airport taxes, airport usage fees, travel insurance premiums, baggage expenses, and other related costs are the responsibility of the international student.
Travel expenses will not be provided for students returning to their home country before or after the month of the scholarship period's end due to personal reasons. Travel expenses will also not be provided for temporary returns home or for students who remain in Japan after the scholarship period ends (e.g., for further studies, employment, or academic extension).
The IAD will contact the relevant MEXT students via email or other means regarding the specific application procedures.

MEXT students may also receive other scholarships concurrently. However, scholarships from Japanese independent administrative agencies are prohibited from being received concurrently with the Government-sponsored International Student Program (see below).
Tottori University will continue to exclude MEXT students from the university recommendation scholarships provided by foundations, etc. to provide financial support for privately financed international students.
Furthermore, International students who have been in Japan for six months or more are considered residents, but students who receive funding from a foreign government, etc., may be subject to the Security Export Control under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act as residents who are under a specific category, even if they are residents, so it is necessary for Tottori University to understand the situation regarding the receipt of funding, etc. If you apply for and receive a scholarship outside of Japan on your own, please inform the IAD of your situation regarding receiving funding, etc.
