International strategy in Tottori Uni.

Dormitory for international students and researchers

At Tottori University, the International House (called “Kaikan”)  is prepared as dormitory for international students.
The purpose of Kaikan is to offer temporary accommodation for international students and researchers.
We also aim to the development of international exchange of education and research.
 
It is not possible the classification of the room
except for a family stay.

 

The occupancy period is generally between one month and six months (※).
※ The maximum occupancy period extends until the earlier of the end of March or the end of September following the move-in date.
(Excludes Exchange students, Japanese studies students, Teacher training students, Research students, and other Tottori University students enrolled for one year or less.)

The procedures for the Kaikan (payment of various fees and move-in/move-out procedures, etc.) are not accepted while the business of Tottori University is closed.

Please take such actions between 1:30pm and 6:30pm on weekdays.

Usage Fee (monthly)

The fee will be deducted from your bank account on the date determined each month.
The paid fee cannot be returned. 

However, usage fee in the month you move in and the month you move out must be paid in cash to the manager of Kaikan.

Other Expenses
  • Common-Area Charge (charged monthly)
    Please pay common-area charge to the manager of Kaikan every month.
    This charge is for internet fee, commodity (kitchen appliances, garbage bag, etc.), and for cleaning of lounge, kitchen, hallway, and stairs.
     
  • Cleaning Fee (charged when you move in)
    Cleaning fee is used for room cleaning after you move out.
     
  • Deposit (charged when you move in)
    Deposit is used for repairing room and equipment.
    If your room doesn’t have any damages, it will be returned to you when you move out.
    However, you should pay for the shortage when the amount of repair is more than the deposit you paid.
     
  • Both cleaning fee and deposit should be paid in a lump sum with the usage fee when you move in  regardless of the duration of your stay. 
     
  • If a card key is lost, a fee will be charged to re-create it.
Utility bill (electricity, tap water, gas)
  • Electricity for each room and gas for the 2-person rooms (C) and 3-person rooms (D) are covered by individual contracts between the tenant and the respective utility providers.
    The manager will handle the contract procedures upon move-in.
    Usage fees are paid individually; please pay them yourself at a convenience store or similar location.
     
  • Regarding water, each room has its own water meter.
    The manager checks the water meters monthly.
    The manager's office will notify you of the water bill amount; please pay it at the manager's office.
     
  • Electricity, water, and gas charges for common areas will be billed separately by the manager.
    This fee is paid equally by all residents.
    Therefore, using your own electrical appliances for extended periods via outlets in shared spaces is prohibited.

Moving-in and Moving-out

1. Before moving in

① Submission of Application form
 The International Affairs Division will send you a link of an online application form for moving in.

2. Moving in

① Receipt of keys, etc. 
  Get the key from the International Affairs Division.

② Participate in the Kaikan’s Orientation    
  April and October residents are required to attend the scheduled orientation for the Kaikan after moving in.

③ Submit the residence notification  
  Please submit residence notification to the manager within three days after moving in to the Kaikan.

④ Read and follow the residence guide  
  Read the residence guide carefully provided in each room and observe the rules while living in the Kaikan.

⑤ Pay for the various fees  
  Please deposit money into your bank account and pay various fees by the due date each month.

3. Moving out

① Submit the notification of moving out      
  Please notify the manager at least 20 days prior to the day you move out. 
  However, if you wish to move out in September or March, please notify the manager by the 10th of the month preceding your desired move-out month.
  (Ex:Notify the manager before 10th February if you would like to move out in March)

② Inspection of the room prior to moving out     
  The manager will inspect your room to check the damages and so on before the date of moving out.

③ Move out Kaikan      
  Please return the room key (including the card key for building entrance) to the manager’s room.

Precautions for moving in

  • Duration of Stay
    Permitted period of stay at Kaikan will not exceed the duration mentioned in the “Permission to Reside in the International House” 
     
  • Fees
    To stay at Kaikan, you should pay usage fees, facility fees, cleaning fees, deposit and utility expenses. 
     
  • Upon violation of the rules for Kaikan, you are ordered to leave 
    The Kaikan prohibits overnight stays by unauthorized individuals.
    If an overnight stay by a non-resident is discovered, the occupancy permit will be revoked and the individual will be ordered to vacate.

How to separate and dispose waste

  • Please separate your garbage properly. Garbage not properly sorted are not collected.
     
  • Please take your garbage out to the garbage station in front of Kaikan by 8:00AM on the designated day of the week. You cannot leave it in the common areas such as the kitchen.
     
  • You cannot use any garbage bag other than those specified. (※The garbage in other bags such as the plastic bags given at supermarkets will not be collected.)
  • For the collection days of combustible garbage, Plastic bottles(PET bottles), recyclable garbage, etc., check the Tottori City Garbage Collection Calendar.

  • Please check the Tottori City website for information on how to separate and dispose of garbage.
