Certificate of Eligibility

     International students whose entrance to Tottori University are certain have an option to apply for the certificate of eligibility to an immigration office in Japan several months before their entrance date so that the time of obtaining VISA at a Japanese embassy in their country might be shorten.
     For "Short-stay Visa" (within 15-day stay, or 90-day stay in Japan), you cannot apply for certificate of eligibility at an immigration office in Japan. Please take procedures in person at a Japanese embassy or consulate in your country.

※If you wish to bring your family to Japan, make sure that you are accustomed to life in Japan and that you are ready, including financially, before you bring them.
※If you submit a document written in other than Japanese or English, you must attach either Japanese or English translation.

A Photo of an applicant(height 4cm × width 3cm)(Taken within the last 3 months. Photo data (50KB or less) for online application)

*It is inappropriate under any circumstances to change the image of the person by editing or processing the image to make the eyes look larger, whitening the skin, or modifying facial features, moles, wrinkles, etc. Also, photos that are reversed horizontally are inappropriate.

4 A self-addressed envelope with ¥460 postal stamp (Not required for online application) details
5 Documents  which certify admission
1)Undergraduate/Graduate Students:A Photocopy of Certificate of Entrance Permit
2)Research Students:A Photocopy of Entrance Permit, Research Plans issued by supervisor
3)Auditors:A Photocopy of Entrance Permit, Documents about registered courses which mentions auditing subjects and class hours

Faculty

6 Documents which certify financial competency to cover all the costs thinkable during applicant's stay in Japan (Either 1) or 2))

1) If the applicant covers the costs including school and living expenses; (One of ①-③)
 ① Certificate of Scholarship*
 ② Certificate of Bank Deposit or A Photocopy of Passbook (In case of Passbook, submit  a copy of page that shows your balance and your name.)
 ③ Certificate of Remittance

2) If a person other than the applicant covers the costs including school and living expenses; (All of ①-③)
 ① "Letter of Financial Gurantee" (an explanatory document prepared by a financial supporter)

 ② Documents that certify the relationship between the applicant and the supporter.

 ③ One or more documents about the financial supporter mentioned below that prove financial capability of the supporter and relationship between the applicant and the supporter.

 ・Tax & Income Certificate
 ・Certificate of Income and Withholding Tax
 ・Photocopy of Income-tax Returns
 ・Certificate of Bank Deposit(tax & income certificate or certificate of employment that proves the process of building up the deposit is also required)

Tuberculosis Non-Infection Certificate (Applicable to nationals of the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar, and China)
・Philippine and Nepalese nationals: Applications submitted on or after June 23th, 2025
・Vietnamese nationals: Applications submitted on or after September 1st, 2025

※Among the target countries, the implementation dates for Indonesia, Myanmar, and China are yet to be determined.

 

<Implementation of Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening>

 In view of the current situation of tuberculosis cases in Japan, the pre-entry tuberculosis screening for mid- to long-term residents of countries with a particularly large number of tuberculosis patients in Japan will be started, requiring proof that they do not have tuberculosis. Starting in March 2025 or later, those from eligible countries who are ready for the screening will be required to receive the screening at designated medical institutions and submit a certificate of TB-free at the time of application for CoE (or visa application).
