Opinion Exchange Meeting between the President and International Students

On December 12, 2025, we held an exchange meeting between President Harada and international students enrolled at our university.

This exchange meeting aims to understand the challenges and needs international students face daily through direct dialogue with the president.
It serves as a foundation for enhancing future support for international students and further advancing the university's globalization.

17 international students from 11 countries participated.
Joining President Harada, Board Member Kageyama (Research and International Exchange) and Board Member Sakaguchi (Education and IT) joined each group, facilitating lively discussions.

During the discussions, international students shared their future goals, such as:
“I want to obtain a Japanese teaching license and stay in Japan to become a teacher.”
“I want a job where I can communicate using both Japanese and English.”
“I want to study depopulation issues and contribute to solving similar problems in my home country.”
“I want to become a bridge connecting Japan and my home country.”Regarding their studies and impressions at Tottori University, they shared:
“The lab atmosphere and close relationships between professors and students are great,”
“Unique research fields like arid land studies and mushroom research exist,”
“State-of-the-art facilities are available.”On lifestyle changes, they noted:
“I've interacted with local people and know more people now,”
“I can shop at supermarkets without issues,”
indicating they are gradually adapting to life in Japan.

On the other hand, challenges in daily life in Japan were also shared, such as:
“There are few places where I can eat halal food,”
“It's difficult to make Japanese friends,”
“I struggle with procedures at city offices and banks in Japan.”

The exchange session proceeded in a consistently friendly atmosphere.
Participants shared feedback such as:
“I truly enjoyed sharing my opinions and receiving positive reactions and feedback. It was a truly wonderful session.”
