For Privately Financed International Students:
Students who wish to apply for the Tottori Prefectural International Exchange Foundation Scholarship are requested to read the following information carefully before applying.
[Applicant’s Qualification]
Applicants must be privately financed international students enrolled in a university or other institution in Tottori Prefecture and must meet all of the following conditions:
- Applicants must be from, or have studied at (or graduated from), a university in one of Tottori Prefecture’s Friendship Partner / Exchange Regions:
(Friendship Partner/Exchange Areas)
・ Gangwon Province, Korea
・ Jilin Province, China
・ Russian Maritime Region
・ Central Mongolia Province
・ Hebei Province, China
・ Khabarovsk Region, Russia
・ Taichung City, Taiwan
・ Vermont, USA
・ Westmoreland, Jamaica.
- At the time of applying for the scholarship, applicants must have been enrolled at a university or other institution within the prefecture for at least six months and must have opened a bank account with a financial institution that has a main or branch office in Tottori Prefecture(※).
(※) Japan Post Bank is also eligible.
- Applicants must not be receiving any other scholarships at the time of application and must not plan to receive any during the scholarship period.
- Applicants must be willing to register as an “International Exchange Activity Volunteer” with the Foundation, participate in its programs and local exchange activities, and show motivation to contribute to future exchange activities between Tottori Prefecture and the partner regions.
- Applicants must not have family members who receive income equivalent to or greater than that of a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship.
(However, this does not apply in cases where the applicant lives independently due to unavoidable circumstances.)
- Applicants must not have received this scholarship for more than two terms in the past.
[Monthly Allowance]
20,000 yen
[Scholarship Period]
Minimum 3months, Maximum 6months (April 2026 - September 2026)
*It depends on the students’ enrollment period.

If you would like to attach photos related to your activities:
1.Create a blank Word document.
2.Insert photos of your activities (JPEG or PNG format).
3.Write a brief description under each photo.
4.Submit this Word document together
with your application materials as a data file.

*This scholarship is awarded with the expectation that international students will serve as “bridges of friendship and exchange” between Tottori Prefecture and their home countries or regions in the future.
Please keep this purpose in mind when completing your application.
[Application Deadline]
April 22 (Wed) (Strict deadline)
- The application form may be handwritten or typed on a computer, but must be completed in Japanese.
- There will be a document review and an interview conducted by the foundation.
- If you haven't arrived in Japan and difficult to submit the original documents, please first submit the data by e-mail by the deadline, and then submit the original documents as soon as possible after your arrival in Japan.
- Research students and exchange students are also eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- If you apply for this scholarship, Tottori University will not recommend you to any other scholarship until the results of the application will be received.
(Important) Please note that not all applicants will be selected for this scholarship since the Foundation determines the recipients of this scholarship.
