The Sakata Agri Foundation has offered a scholarship.

The outline of this scholarship is as follows.

[Eligibility]

(1) Eligible applicants (as of April 1, 2026)

  1. Applicants must be a citizen of the target country and have “Student” status of residence.
  2. Applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program at a designated school and meet one of the following requirements. 
    However, for the bachelor's program, the applicant must be a sophomore or above.
    a. Students must be enrolled in a faculty related to agriculture, etc.
    b. Those who major in agriculture or other fields and are engaged in research.
    *Please check “別紙1” of the application guideline to see if your affiliation is related to agriculture or other fields.
  3. Must be 30 years of age or younger as of April 1, 2026.
  4. Must be able to communicate in Japanese on a daily basis (JLPT N3 or above, or equivalent).
    Also, be able to participate in events such as social gatherings.
  5. The applicant must be enthusiastic about his/her studies and have a strong awareness and high aspirations to contribute to the development of his/her home country in the future by utilizing the specialized knowledge acquired through research and activities at the university or graduate school.

(2) Target Countries

Southeast Asian countries, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Latin American countries, African countries
 *Southeast Asian countries refer to the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
 *Latin American and African countries refer to the countries listed on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

[How to apply]

 Please submit the following documents to the International Affairs Division.

 *All application documents must be written in Japanese (either handwritten or typed on a computer).

 April 17, 2026

 

[How to take the examination]

 First examination (document screening): June 2026
 Second examination (face-to-face examination): July 2026 or later

 

[Scholarship]

 100,000 yen per month

 (Bachelor's course: from April 2026 to the month of completion of the regular bachelor's course)

 (Master's course: From April 2026 to the month of completion of the regular terminal course *Maximum 2 years)

 (Doctoral course: 2 years from April 2026 *Generally 2 years. However, if completed within 2 years, the period extends until the month of completion.)

 

[Others]

 Applicants receiving scholarships from other organizations are not eligible to apply.
 However, Japanese Government Scholarship students and recipients of university scholarships are eligible to apply.
