Sato International Scholarship Foundation Recruitment for the Academic Year of 2011-2012.

Scholarship students may choose to receive their monthly awards from October 2011 or April 2012.

If you would like to apply for this scholarship, please contact the International Affairs Division (Tel:0857-31-5056)and pick up the application forms and guidelines.

You must submit the application forms for this scholarship to the IAD by Friday, August 5, 2011.

*You must fill out the application forms in Japanese.

(Qualification Summary)

1. Qualified Applicants

 To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be privately financed students who are enrolled in the University as an undergraduate or as a graduate student, and are from one of the following countries:Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, East Timor, Viet Nam(Note: Japanese Nationals and Research students are not qualified.)

In addition, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

① Students are interested in international understanding and goodwill and will be able to attend Sato Foundation Meetings (meetings will be held six times a year.);

② Students have not received and will not receive any scholarship or study grant from any other foundations for the academic year of 2011-2012;

③ Students have a “college student” visa;

④ Students do not have a parent who works in Japan;

⑤ Students do not have a doctoral degree;

⑥ Students’ current enrollment period will last for more than one year beginning from October 2011 or from April 2012;

⑦ Students are able to communicate in Japanese;

⑧ Students are able to cooperate actively with international exchange programs as SATOM after finishing receiving this scholarship. (SATOM is alumni of Sato International Scholarship Foundation)

2. Monthly Award

   Undergraduate Students: 120,000 yen
   Graduate Students: 180,000 yen (There is also financial support available for participating in academic conferences related to your study program.)

3. Scholarship period

October 2011 ~ September 2013 (2years)
April 2012 ~ March 2014 (2years)

※Note: you may only receive monthly award payments as long as you are enrolled in the same degree program as when you submitted your application for this scholarship. Furthermore, you may only receive payments continuously for a maximum of two years while you are enrolled. Students who take a leave of absence will not receive any payments during that absence. Likewise, students who graduate in less than the two-year period covered by this scholarship will no longer receive any payments in the months following their graduation date. (e.g. 4th-year undergraduates and 2nd-year graduates in the Master’s program will be able to receive award payments for one year).

※ For doctoral students, monthly award payments may continue until the completion of their program(i.e. even if it takes more than two years to complete the doctoral course). However, doctoral students who will take more than the normal two-year scholarship period to finish their doctoral course will be required to apply for an extension of monthly payments until graduation.

※ It is possible to apply for this scholarship again even if you had received monthly  award payments from the Sato Foundation before or even if you had applied for this scholarship and been disqualified before.

5. Selection and Result

  • Primary Selection Phase: Screening of application documents

Announcement of the result: Tuesday, October 11, 2011

  • Secondary Selection Phase: Interview (An interview will be held on October 22 or October 23 in Tokyo)

Announcement of the result: Wednesday, October 26, 2011

IMPORTANT!!  If you apply for this scholarship, Tottori University will not be able to recommend you for any other scholarships until you receive the result of your application from the Sato Foundation.

*If it is found that you were not selected to receive this scholarship, you will be able to apply for any other scholarships.
